Day 8 – 27 May: We stayed at America’s Best Value Inn in Albert Lea, MN and the people there had never seen a Tesla, much less sat in one – even though a supercharger is located in their town. They couldn’t have been nicer and we took this shot of two who helped us a lot. Pssst! Secret! They are getting married in August.

It was about 90 miles into Minneapolis from Albert Lea and Patty shot this view of the downtown as we were driving in.

Minneapolis is a cold weather town and in the winter it is much harder to get around. As a consequence, much of the downtown is connected with aerial walkways between buildings. It also eases pedestrian traffic on the streets.

We weren’t going to have quite enough energy to reach our next destination, because of the detour into Minneapolis, so we stopped at the Tesla Service Center to inquire about the best place to top off. They offered to allow us a couple of hours charge at their place and even took our car in and cleaned it from top to bottom. Since it was loaded with our stuff, it was quite a job. When done, the car looked like new, not like it had been on the road for a week. They said they like to take care of their cross-country travellers and want everyone to feel good about Tesla service.

Finally we visited the Mall of America – the largest mall in the United States – and walked twice around it, hitting all three main floors. Patty is shown here next to the Ferris Wheel – there is an entire amusement park in the center of the mall, as well as an aquarium. Patty did pick up some things, but how do you go to a mall on your vacation without a bit of shopping?

It was good this day included only about 120 miles of driving, because the next three are going to be lots of driving, followed by dinner with friends and relatives each evening. Time to start early.
